ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in 1934 near London, England, Diana Wynne Jones is a prolific author. From her first book, Changeover (published 1970), to her most recent, The Game (published 2007), Jones gets most of her recognition for writing novels for children, although she has also published novels for adults and a plethora of short stories, many of which are now available in collections. If you didn’t read her as a child, you’ve probably heard of her as the author of Howl’s Moving Castle, the basis for the animated feature Hauru no Ugoku Shiro put out by Miyazaki Hayao’s Studio Ghibli in 2004. While Jones’ work is not one hundred percent stellar all the time, she is consistently clever, engaging, and original. She also has the distinction of being the only author whose work I have compulsively had to hug and giggle over after finishing it. Yes, I’m a geek, but Howl and Chrestomanci are just that cool.
