Wow, were there ever two characters whose testosterone levels make it any less of a good idea for them to interact?

Zuko meets Jet on the way to Ba Sing Se. Jet and his remaining "freedom fighters" Smellerby and Longshot are going there to start a new life after the fiasco of S01E10 ("Jet"). Obviously Jet can sense grumpy badass vibes because he immediately latches onto Zuko as a means of getting the Earth Kingdom refugees proper food…by stealing it from the ferry captain who's hoarding it (S02E12, "The Serpent's Pass"). While Jet's presumably doing this to help people, Zuko's really only in it to get himself some non-rotten food. And given what we know about Jet up to this point, it's quite possible Jet's more interested in sticking it to the Man than helping anyone.

In some ways, Jet and Zuko are similar characters—multifaceted, with both honorable and dangerously immoral sides. They get along if they're working toward a common goal, but otherwise, they don't like each other much…which leads to a pretty awesome non-bending fight sequence when Jet tries to out Zuko and Iroh as firebenders to the Earth Kingdom. This fight is probably the main reason these two characters meet at all—no doubt the creators just wanted to see a fight between Zuko's dual broadswords and Jet's dual crowbar thingies ^^;;.
